Obituary of Basil Jay Scott

Jay Scott lived a full life, rich in friends, love, and laughter. Born in Kalamazoo to Mildred and Eugene Scott, Jay was the third of four boys, Billy, Jeff, Jay, and Dewey. Jay was the last of his generation and is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. He attended Western Michigan University and was active in the music and theater scene in Kalamazoo. Jay was an avid photographer and reader, with a sense of adventure that took him to jobs from one end of the country to the other as a young man. One final adventure took him to the Oregon coast in 2010, and he returned to Kalamazoo in 2016 to be closer to the family, friends, and community he loved. Jay died on January 15, 2018, after a brief illness. 

An open house to celebrate Jay’s life will be held on Sunday January 21 at the home of Thell Woods and Miriam Downey. 2740 Bronson Blvd. Kalamazoo. 2 to 4 pm with a sharing time at 3:15. Bring pictures and a story to share.
