Obituary of Ernest Lee Armstrong
Ernest Lee Armstrong, “Tubby”, was born in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee on May 29, 1946, to the late Lorenzo Dawson and Sally May Pillow. He departed this life at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence on February 13, 2022, following an extended illness. Ernest graduated from Clark High School in MT. Pleasant, TN. While living in Tennessee, he worked for Mobil Chemical Company; after moving to Battle Creek, Michigan Ernest worked for various companies, which included Rockwell, V.A. Medical, Kellogg’s, and Grand Trunk Railroad. Ernest enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and bowling. Ernest also loved his church Bethlehem Temple of Springfield, where he was a dedicated deacon under former Pastor Ollie May Rudolph and remained a deacon under current pastor Bishop Tony Thomas. In May of 1965, Ernest enlisted in the United States Army, where he was a specialist Rank 4 until May of 1968. Ernest was cared for by his youngest son, Lorenzo Armstrong.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo Dawson and Sally May Pillow; brothers Frank Armstrong, Willie Ed Armstrong, Charles Armstrong, and John Dawson; and grandchild Enrique Jaytara Tharpe. He is survived by his wife Maureena; Sons Lorenzo Armstrong, Ernest Armstrong, and Joaquin McKnight; Daughters Trachon Armstrong, Codie Armstrong, and LaKia Green; 6 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren 3 God-babies Kareem, Ky’leah, Ju’leon; Sisters Jessica Ganaway and Natasha (Brent) Kohorst; Best friends deacon Joe Bass and Edward Riddle; Father-in-law Arven Prude; Special son-in-law Eric (Ike) Ross; Special daughter-in-law A’lexis and a host of nieces and nephews.
