Obituary of Kathleen Ann Shelton
Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Shelton, Age 68, from Vicksburg, MI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9th at her home in Comstock, MI, surrounded by family.
Please join us at a Memorial Service to be held at Boughton Cemetery North Side of East S Ave. 1/4 Mile East of South 34th St. in Vicksburg, MI for Kathleen Shelton at 1 p.m. and following will be a Celebration of Life at Robert Morris Park at 3p.m at 8415 E H Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048
She was born in Vicksburg, MI to Richard and Ruth Shelton (Shelley) on May 25, 1950.
Kathleen attended Vicksburg High School and later received her H.S. diploma with honors. She also attended Davenport University and received a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) certificate. Prior to her involvement in nursing, Kathy was a valuable employee at Schwartz’s Restaurant in Kalamazoo. She worked for several years as a Nurses Aide at Tender Care Nursing Home in Portage. She was a strong and caring person, who was very passionate about the people she worked with and the work she performed.
Kathleen is survived by former husband and cherished friend, John Nelson; Son, Gary Lynn Kingsbury, Jr.; Daughters, Melissa Ann Jacobs-Skipper, and Andrea Elaine Jacobs.
Four siblings and their spouses: Cheryl Shelton Maillard (Ron), Richard Shelton (Terri), Steven Shelton (Lois), and Christine Shelton Decker (Rod).
Nine Grandchildren: Amber Hopkins, Stacey Kingsbury, Gary Kingsbury III, Miles Britton, Jason Jacobs, Kyle Skipper, Kody Skipper, Justin Skipper, Brandon Skipper
Seven Great Grandchildren: PJ Hotrum, Devin Wilkins, Michael Britton, Savannah Britton, Trenton Natalie Grofvert, Baylee Grofvert, Charlotte Skipper, Riley Reenders, and Russell Reenders.
Loved also by many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
Preceded in Death by her parents, Richard and Ruth Shelton (Shelley); Daughter, Diane Marie Kingsbury; and Husband, Gary Lynn Kingsbury, Sr.
Kathy was, and will always be remembered as an amazingly loving, special person, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She had many interests and hobbies, including horses, reading, camping, football, celebrating Christmas, and most recently, Facebook.
During her younger years her love for riding horses was a big part of her life. She loved the movie and book “Black Beauty”, and her sisters said she joked many times about running away on a horse one day with her friend. Her daughter remembers her saying many times that she and John were going to get a pony for the kids to ride!
