Obituary of Joan Christinia Wheeler

Joan C. Wheeler passed away on June 23, 2018 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Facility with her loving family by her side.

Born January 1937 in Brooklyn, she is predeceased by her parents, William and Josephine Burkhardt and her late husband John “Jack” Wheeler.  

Joan acquired many lifelong friends while she lived in NY, Florida, Tennessee and Michigan. Jovial conversations with family and friends were Joan’s passion and delight. An avid traveler, she enjoyed many trips to Newfoundland and while she enjoyed the untamed landscape, it was the lobster that captured her heart. Joan delighted in ambitious card games, was an avid reader, a crossword guru, Master Gardener and more recently she loved to watch cooking channels. 

Joan is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law from her marriage to the late John Hillman, Douglas and Andrea of GA, Richard and Aimee of NY, Michael and Patricia of NY, John and Lori of MI and William and Tina of TN; one stepdaughter and her husband: Penny and Charles May of CO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Burkhardt, of Northville. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia and her brother-in-law Brian Saunders. 

In accordance with Joan’s wishes, a private memorial will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no public calling hours or services.
