Dear Paul, Allyson, Claire and Carolyn,
Evangelist John, I and the Fresh Fire AME Church family send our condolences to your family and relatives in the transition of God's Servant. Know that Brother Clarence knew and loved the Lord and the life that he lived spoke for him. Although his voice is stilled, his fingers resting, know that Clarence is resting safe in the arms of Jesus. He has joined the Chuch triumphant. His melodious voice and the music that he rendered on the organ shall never be forgotten.
In Deepest Sympathy,
The Fresh Fire AME Church Family,
Rev. Bobette Hampton, Pastor

I will always remember Clarence's pride that he sang with the Wingmen in WWII, his love of playing on grand pipe organs, his ability to pick up the violin after retirement and play with our orchestra, his arrangements of various songs, his love for his sister, his son, and his friends, his partnership that presented black history in song, and his ability to save the quirkiest things because he might need them later. He was a dear. Keeping all of you in my prayers.

Mr. Small was a very smart, accomplished, and caring man. I am glad he became my friend as I met with him to learn more about his life. When I spoke with him after his 93 birthday he said "I am chronologically a year older - I still enjoy life!!" He was a great example of living life to the fullest and will be sorely missed.

Clarence will be sorely missed. I always marveled at his unfailing good nature, and how he always had a good word for everyone. He was an absolute fixture in the Southwest MI Symphony; it won't be the same without him in the violin section.

An audience member, without fail after each SMSO concert, I sought Clarence, feeling so appreciative and fond of the sparkle in his eye, the joy he shared consistently in his own personal air of astonishment arising from the amazement of blessings he felt, blessings which he gives us. Heartfelt condolences to you, David, and to the hearts ever mindful of the extended reach of love in his heart and love in his music in childhood, in church, in orchestra, and beyond.
