Obituary of Cornelia Miles
Cornelia (Connie) “Needie” Miles was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2017. Connie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was born in Albion, Michigan to Julius Gant Sr. and Cornelia (Baxter) Gant. Connie attended Westward School and Albion Public Schools. She married Asa Miles, Jr., on March 25, 1945. To this union 6 children were born, 4 girls and 2 boys. She was preceded in death by her husband (Asa) granddaughter Jasmine Starr Miles, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Connie was a member of Lewis Chapel A.M.E Church for over 70 years. She was involved in many auxiliaries at Lewis Chapel: The Missionary Society, a Deaconess, and one of the founding members of the Matrons Club. As a dedicated member, she was always willing to help in whatever area she was needed.
Connie retired from Albion Community Hospital in 1993 after 20 years of service in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed family events, planting vegetables, house plants and flowers. According to the “Ann Street kids” she baked the best cookies and homemade donuts in Albion. Connie was a good seamstress, having made a suit for her husband, her daughters' wedding dress, prom dresses and many outfits for herself and her granddaughters.
Connie leaves to cherish in her memory, children: Marcele Morgan and Robert Miles (Lansing, MI), Linda Howard (Kalamazoo, MI), Teresa (Gary) Watson (Ann Arbor, MI), Bonnie Miller (Ypsilanti, MI), Dennis Miles (Atlanta, GA). 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Sisters: Janet Geary (Detroit, MI), Mattye Clayborne (Battle Creek, MI). Brothers, Dr. Leon Gant (Detroit), Ronald Gant (Albion, MI). Special family members, Harl Miller, Michelle Williams Miles, and Aneeta Anderson. Special friends, Agnes Wright, Earlene Williams, Cynthia Smith, Jeanette Smiley and Sylvia Cheek. And a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
