Obituary of Angela Louise Stephenson

Angela Louise Stephenson was born on June 29, 1971, to Barbara Anne (Hale) Stephenson and Bertherm Bell Stephenson in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Bronson Methodist Hospital following a lengthy illness. 

Angela accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and attended Bible Baptist and Mt. Calvary Christian Bible churches. She graduated from Parchment High School where she participated in various sports, including basketball and track and field. After high school, Angela worked as a certified nurse’s aide and eventually continued her education at ITT Technical Institute, where she obtained a degree and certification as apprentice electrician.  

Angela enjoyed traveling to several parts of the world, engaging in various cultures, cuisines, and international experiences. Most notably, she spent time in Costa Rica and Senegal, and lived in Jamaica for two years where she often dreamed of owning land and starting a business abroad. Angela spent several years as a lead vocalist in the Kalamazoo-based reggae band, Zion Lion. 

Angela, or more affectionately known to her family and friends as “Angie”, was known for her deep passion for Black History, her love for adventure and spending quality time with her only granddaughter, Elianna Brielle Stephenson. 

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons; Justin and Tyler Stephenson; granddaughter, Elianna Brielle Stephenson; two sisters, Tambra Hollingsworth & Annette (Ronald) Gipson; one brother, Travis Stephenson; special friend, Darrell Burroughs; and a host of loving family and friends.
