Obituary of Earl Lee Hendrix
Mr. Earl Lee Hendrix Sr. – Age 97
Passed away Tuesday November 29, 2016 at 6:10 PM
Earl Lee Hendrix Sr. was born September 20, 1919 son of the late Fuel and Mattie B. Hendrix in Lowndes County Mississippi, city of Artesia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva Mae Robertson and wife Clara Hendrix (1997) son Sylvester Hendrix and numerous brothers and sisters. He professed Christ at an early age and was a committed and active member of Mt Calvary Christian Bible Church until his death; where the Pastor is Bishop Timothy S Ezell. He enjoyed singing solos, fellowship and the relationships he built with his church family. He often spoke of one of the young people who would walk him home every Sunday when he lived next door to the church.
Earl resided in Mississippi until 1969 and worked as a farmer until he gained employment with the city of Starkville as a Sanitation worker. He relocated to Kalamazoo Michigan to be closer to his children. After relocating to Kalamazoo he garnered his entrepreneurial spirit and started a landscaping business that he successfully worked into his early eighties. He also served his community by growing and providing fresh produce weekly well before the Farm to Table craze today. He was passionate about helping neighbors start and maintain their own garden plots not only throughout his neighborhood but the city as well. “He would offer often before they even asked because he saw an empty space”. In addition, Earl loved planting flowers and when the house next door to him was torn down the entire space was filled with Dahlias and Zinnias two of his favorite’s to enjoy and to share with those who passed by.
Earl’s interests included; first and far most spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren, fishing, hunting, training hunting dogs, weekend bar-b ques where he was known for his own special recipe of hot sauce.
