Obituary of Mae Eunice O'Day

Mae Eunice O’Day passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at Rose Arbor Hospice on November 28, 2022, at 02:10 AM. Mae was born on January 30, 1952, in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Maude Martin and James Richardson.

Mae moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when she was ten years old, where she grew up and became a housekeeper and home health aide.

She took great pleasure in shopping, finding good deals, and spending quality time with her family, as she loved her family dearly. Mae was also known to be the life of the party and absolutely loved to dance. In fact, she shared her last special dance with Alto Emory.

One thing about Mae was no matter how bad life was for her, she always said she was “Blessed by the best and to hell with the rest!” Anyone who met Mae could never forget her bright and energetic personality. She touched many people with her love and passion for life.

She came to know the Lord at a young age and was a dedicated servant to him throughout her life.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband Jerome O'Day Sr., her son, Dashaun Derell O’Day; her parents, James Richardson and Maude Martin; her maternal grandparents, Andrew (Idella) Gill; her brothers, Robert Richardson Sr. and Jessie James Richardson; her sister, Jeanette Johnson; and her nephews, Lawrence (Derrick) Taylor and Robert Richardson Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Lisa (Curtis) Gathings; Donna Taylor; her sons, Jerome O’Day; Antwain (Mary) O’Day all of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She also leaves behind three sisters: Mildred Jernigan of Augusta, Georgia; Donnie Richardson and Melissa Richardson both of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Also rejoicing in her homecoming are 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and several “adopted” grandchildren she has obtained along the way. Mae also leaves behind a sister in Christ Magarette Cooper-McDonald and 4 special friends that were near and dear to her heart: Lo, Kim, Katie, and Mae Eunice O’Day passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at Rose Arbor Hospice on November 28, 2022, at 02:10 AM.
