Ruthie Davis

Obituary of Ruthie Mae Davis

Ruthie Mae Davis was called home Thursday, November 10, 2022. She was born to Sol and Elnora Jackson in Scotts, Mississippi on December 4,1939. She was immersed in the Baptist community that would be a lifelong support from an early age. She moved to Kalamazoo, MI in 1965, met Thomas Davis, and got married. She turned her life to the Lord and joined Galilee Baptist Church.

She began working in production at Shakespears where she devoted 25 years. During those years she found motivation to return to school to obtain her diploma in 1978. Ruthie’s heart was too big to share with just family, so she began to dedicate her life to caring for others. She worked with Catholic Family Services for 20 years, fostering several children and adopting 2, while also working for Park Place Living Center for 12 years as a Nurse’s Aid, finally retiring in 2002. Although Ruthie stopped working, she stayed busy. She spent most of her time caring for her children, gardening, and volunteering in church. She played an active role on The Usher Board, Eastern Stars and traveling with the church. In her spare time she loved to cook, only using fresh vegetables grown from her own garden. Holidays were always an event, her cooking brought everyone together; family, friends and strangers. Her big personality, sense of humor, and charm brought sweetness to your soul, just like her baking. Her friends and family will miss her most famous Mississippi Mud Pie, 7 layer cake, Blueberry and Lemon Meringue Pies. Ruthie was a pillar in her community, she will be missed tremendously, but her spirit will live through us, forever.

Ruthie is preceded in death by her mother, Elnora Jackson, father, Sol Jackson Sr., sisters Dorothy Buie, Velma Freeman, and Willie B. Anderson. She leaves behind children Edward Jackson, Joyce Myles, Keith (Rateya) Davis Sr, Jamie Davis, and Lauren (Timothy) Cameron, one brother, Saul Jackson Jr., seven grandchildren, Jessica Jackson, Everett Jackson, Kobe Davis, Te'asia Davis, Keith Davis Jr, Kameron Bean, and Karter Cameron, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, special niece and nephew, Diane Freeman and Selvester Jackson, and special friends Jesse Owens, Leotha Rogers, Ruth Williams, Mittie Devold, and Doris Perry
