Ruby Lee Pearl was born on December 24, 1928, in Haynesville, Louisiana. She was the second youngest child of six born to John Allen Johnson and Lillie Pearl Reed Johnson. Ruby wed Leslie Ray Pearl (who preceded her in death in 2004) on December 4, 1948, and to this union three children were born: Dorothy Ann Evans of Albion, MI; Billy Ray Pearl of Haynesville, LA; and John Edward Pearl of Homer, MI. Ruby accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Pine Hill C.M.E. church, and participated in several auxiliaries (Choir, Women’s Missionary Society, Mother’s Board, and Pastor’s Aide). She was a faithful member of Pinehill C.M.E. Church in Haynesville, LA, until she moved to Michigan. In 2014 she moved to Michigan so that she can be cared for by her daughter. While in Michigan she attended New Harvest Christian Center. Ruby was preceded in death by her siblings: Lora Copeland Grisby, Fletcher Johnson, Matthew Johnson, and Bennie Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother; Jesse (Alma) Johnson; nineteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. Ruby was a quiet, loving, caring person, with a bubbly personality and a very sweet spirit. She enjoyed cooking, gardening (plants & vegetables), fishing, quilting, and singing or listening to gospel music. Her favorite flower was yellow rose. Her favorite deserts were caramel cake and ice cream. She lived by the motto “You were born with two ears and one mouth for a reason”. Be quick to listen and slow to speak - James 1:19. She was most definitely a lady full of wisdom!!!
