Obituary of Ermajean M. Schneider

Early Sunday morning, August 14th 2022, at the Bronson Center in Mattawan, Michigan, 93 year old Ms. Schneider quietly passed away.

Ermajean Margaret Humphrey was born on May 1st, 1929, to Eleanor (Lamirand) and Melvin Laroy Humphrey in South Bend, Indiana. She was a happily dispositioned child who carried that positive attitude throughout her entire life.
In her youth, classmates nicknamed her "Erm" and the monicker stuck. She liked to kick up her heels and dance, and was a cheerleader for the Central Catholic High School football team. Ermajean was a passionate life-long fan of Notre Dame football, and very rarely missed a game.

The year following her graduation from the St Joseph Academy in South Bend, Indiana, she married "the love of her life," Cleo Lane Smous. Together they had three children, Lane, Brian, and Annette.

She had two very green thumbs, and grew flourishing vegetable and flower gardens effortlessly. Ermajean was always neatly coiffed and fashionably dressed, well-known as an impeccable housekeeper, and liked to collect fine silver. She was especially fond of the color light purple, loved a quality glass of wine, and always left room for strawberry cheesecake.
Ermajean enjoyed spending time playing golf, and taking all her card club members monies while playing Bridge or Bingo. She was described by her late brother-in-law, Dale Smous, as "the luckiest woman I've (he) ever met!, because she had a tendency to win every contest, competition, raffle, lottery, and giveaway she entered. Her reply to such a declaration would be to simply smile and say, "I've had a blessed life."
Shortly following their 52nd wedding anniversary, her beloved Cleo passed away. Dreamily, she would gaze at their wedding portrait and comment that she always thought he looked so much like James 'Jimmy' Dean. He was such a charming and handsome man.
While attending her high school reunion, she met again, fell in love, and married Frank Schneider. They were happily married for 12 years before Frank passed away during the summer of 2015.

In addition to two cherished husbands preceding her in death, she outlived all six of her siblings, her three children, Lane, Brian, and Annette, and her three grandchildren Crystal, Aron, and Jason.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Kathleen 'Kit' Smous; three daughters-in-laws, Alice, Sandy, and Kathy; a granddaughter Arielle (Matt) Dreessen; four grandsons Craig (Virginia) Kujawa, Ryan (Tiffany) Bechtel, Austin Smous, and Dustin Smous; four great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and step-family members.
Her joyous presence and cheerful laugh will be missed by those who carry her memory within their hearts.

Ermajean requested to be buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana, beside her first love, Cleo.
