Obituary of Mamie T. Burnett

Mamie T. Burnett, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2022 at the age of 88. Mamie was born November 13, 1933, the daughter of Cleveland and Clytie (German) Hill of Tupelo, Mississippi, the eldest of ten children. 

Mamie accepted Christ at a very young age. She was A member of Second Baptist church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mamie served on the usher board and sang in the choir. She was a dedicated member of the church and happy to serve the LORD.

Mamie was a woman of many skills, she worked as a nurses’ aide for Sisters of St. Joseph, as Head Chef at the Whistle Stop, and retired from Western Michigan University after many years.

Mamie LOVED EVERYONE she came in contact and had a smile that would bring you life. She never worried about anything. She would always say “I KNOW

A MAN! And His name is JESUS.”

If you asked her how she was feeling she would say “I FEEL GOOD, GOD GOT ME.” Mamie was blessed to have experienced and interacted with all of her generations of grandchildren, great and great greatgrandchildren. She was loved by everyone.

Mamie was preceded in death by her mother and father Cleveland and Clytie (German) Hill, her sister Betty Buchanan, her children Mamie Lou Hill, Michael Hill,Rosemary Burnett, her grandchildren, Ronald Hill, James Neily, Victor Neily, and her Great GreatGrandaughter Alia Smith.

Mamie leaves a great legacy to cherish her memories her children Willie Mae Neily, Dora Lee Burnett, Maeola Burnett, and Judy Burnett-Lesley, all of Kalamazoo, MI: 20 Grandchildren, 62 GreatGrandchildren, and 34 Great Great Grandchildren.

Her siblings Lois Dixon, Lula Horton, Howard Hill, Margaret Pratt, Charlene Singleton, Delores Singleton, Linda Castillo, and Belinda Hill all of Kalamazoo, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
