Obituary of Lucille Johnson

Lucille “Bay” Johnson, 87 passed away at home, peacefully surrounded by her family on April 24, 2022. She was born September 3,1934 in Greenville, Mississippi to the union of George and Ernestine (Johnson) Smith. Lucille married Sam Johnson and they relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1956 where they started a new life and raised their 7 children. Lucille worked at the Gilbert Hotel for many years. As she was also a caregiver for Johnson Adult Foster Care, Friendly Care and various other places. “Bay” enjoyed watching the morning soaps, listening to B.B.King sing the blues, shopping and cooking. Her favorite thing to shop for was house decor. Lucille was famous for her delicious sweet potato pie that would vanish before it even hit the dessert table. While in her free time, she enjoyed spending time and sharing memories with her special friends Tassie Bell, Willa Woodson, Jackie Clark and Joyce Colen. One thing about Lucille, she was most proud of the family she created. Her grandchildren called her "Granny Bay." She was a true Grandmother in every sense of the word. Never allowing anyone else to care for her grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them unconditionally. No matter the day, nor the time her family knew they could depend on her. Lucille would take anyone into her home, feed them and treat them as if they were family. She will truly be missed for her abundant hospitality, sense of humor, dance moves, down home stories and most of all her undying love and dedication to her family. To cherish her memories she leaves, her children Delores Williams, JT Johnson, Christina Weatherall, Fred Johnson, Patricia (Ebbin) Brown, and Willie Whittaker Jr.; 22 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; brother Pastor Leroy Smith; and forever son-in-laws Jerome Mckinley Sr., Bernard Williams, Prince Collins, Steven Boards; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband; daughters Sandra Mae Johnson, Sandra Kay Brown and Hurdestine Mckinley; parents George and Ernestine; grandchildren Shontte Johnson, Evan Williams, Camille Williams; great granddaughter Chrissy Bennett; sister Vallie Mae Dunklin; and Brother Leonard (Lucinda) Smith.
