Katheryne Mitchell

Obituary of Katheryne Mitchell

Born in Jackson, MS., Katheryne Chadwick Harris was the fourth born and oldest daughter of twelve children to Jesse Chadwick and Issac Harris. Katheryne was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was a graduate of Lanier High school, both located in Jackson, MS. Family was of utmost importance, for Katheryne was constantly updated on everyone near and far. She could give an articulate account of everyone and each of their experiences. She found it to be a hobby of sorts for it gave her great pleasure. Cooking for all was a “cure” for those who were troubled “you could think better on a full stomach” she would say. Birthday parties for grand children would consist of a southern Thanksgiving meal. Her wit and wisdom would be an antidote in any situation. “heap see but a few know” Life would later enter her into holy matrimony in September, 1968 to Adolph Mitchell Jr., a recent veteran of the U.S. army. A move to Kalamazoo, Michigan was the start of life in the North and a new blended family. This union would result in eight children; Alan (Karen) Mitchell, Velma Mitchell, Valarie Mitchell, Debra (Larry) Fields, Brenda Mansfield, Carolyn Harris, Linda Hill and Adolph Mitchell III., resulting in twelve grandchildren Luchiana Harris, Andre Richards (Alyse), Ericka Harris, Dashauna Mitchell, Justin Harris, Sheila Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, Jarae Thurmond, Al’Lena Warren (Nate), Jamar Phillips, Brittany McCollough (Mario) and Markus Harris (Kadeesha) and a host of great/great grand-children. Katheryne transitioned on February 24, 2022 quietly at home surrounded by family, leaving them full of love and wonderful memories. She is proceeded in death by both her parents, four brothers; Richard Harris, Cecil Harris, Jetha (Head) Harris and Jesse Lee Harris. Four sisters; Lucille Colton, Patricia Jerdine, Francis Harrington, Carolyn Harris. Two children; Carolyn Harris and Velma Mitchell. She leaves three siblings in mourning; Teresa Jones, Janie Darden and John Henry Harris and a host of loving nieces and nephews, and cousins. ~Thanks to a special friend Ms. Dennis Floyd~
