Obituary of Stephen Michael Ezell
Mr. Stephen Michael Ezell departed this life at the beckoning of his mother Erma Jean Ezell into eternity on February 8, 2022. He was the son of the late Felix and Erma Jean (Glenn) Ezell. A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Stephen is a graduate of Loy Norrix High School class of 1977 and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College for a short period of time. After graduating from High School, Stephen was employed at UPS and worked construction. He worked for the Wastewater Treatment Plant of Kalamazoo and Mall City Containers, Inc. His last employment was Miniature Custom Manufacturing of Vicksburg. He was never without employment throughout his life.
Stephen was an avid health enthusiast and bodybuilder which led him to be known as Mr. Kalamazoo, in 1978. Throughout the years he has won many bodybuilding awards, trophies, and recognitions. He has helped and counseled many people in health, nutrition, and fitness. Stephen was married at one time but had no children.
He was a childhood member of Allen Chapel AME Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a present member of Mt. Calvary Christian Bible Church, under the leadership of his brother, Dr. Timothy S. Ezell. Stephen served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Mt. Calvary as an usher, the transportation committee as a van driver, and elder.
Stephen enjoyed life to its fullest by collecting DVDs, LP records, CDs, guitars, bearded lizards, and fishing. He was an avid YouTuber.
He was preceded in death by his parents Felix Ezell and Erma Jean Ezell. His maternal grandparents Laura Lou Cannon Glenn and Basel Glenn and paternal grandparents, Elmer Ezell, and Ida Mae Standifer Ezell Chism. Maternal uncle James Douglas “Jackie” Glenn. His maternal great aunts Christine Collins and Ethel Cannon and maternal great uncle Willard Cannon. And his nephew Malcolm Ezell.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his brothers, Dr. Timothy S. Ezell, and his wife Houria Susie Ezell, and Pete McDaniel both of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his sisters, Phyllis L. Ezell, and Ophelia Ezell Johnson, both of Kalamazoo, Michigan; His nieces Jamela Marie Bolden, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Christina L. Ezell Kirkwood (Verelle) of Farmington Hills, Michigan; and Ciera Johnson, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his nephews, Atreldemel Davis, Tayshon Ezell, Martez Pettway, of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Dant’e Johnson, Sr. of Indianapolis, Indiana; his great-nieces Yasmina Bolden, Zahara Jean Ezell, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, D’Ziyer Craig and D’Sani Craig of Indianapolis, Indiana and great-nephews Josiah Plair of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Verelle Kirwood, Jr. of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and JaMarr Atkins, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dant’e Johnson, Jr. and JaVon Wilson both of Kalamazoo, Michigan. A very special adopted mother Ms. Doris Jean Brown of Hope, Arkansas. Special family the Brown Family, Fred and Sheila Miles and extended Ezell family members, also a host of childhood friends and the entire Mt. Calvary Christian Bible Church family.
