Obituary of Doris Jean Shotwell
Doris Jean Shotwell, age 78, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly Saturday, December 18, 2021 in Comstock, Michigan. She was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on November 29, 1943 to Reginald Fredrick and Mary June (Larabell) Rogers. Doris graduated from Fordson High School in 1963.
Doris moved to Kalamazoo in May of 1974, shortly after arriving, she met Earl Duane Shotwell and became friends. Throughout the years, they had a fondness for each other. Everytime one of them was single the other was in a relationship. Eventually, they married on November 17, 2013. Doris drove for the Kalamazoo County Care-a-Van for 13 years, retiring at age 58. She attended church regularly at the World Life Church of God.
Doris enjoyed surfing Face Book posts, sneaking candy into church, knitting and crocheting. She was a collector of many things. Before cell phones and pagers, she stayed in contact with friends over the CB radio; her handle was "Moonshot". Doris made many life long friendships.
Doris is survived by her children, Richard (Rick) Alan (Tracy Federighe) Wanamaker, Kimberly Renee Wanamaker, (Grandpups Capone and Alexa), many grand children and great grandchildren, brothers Dale and Rod Ebernickel, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, Sebastian and Samantha (currently looking for forever homes at the Kalamazoo Animal Control).
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald Fredrick (6-6-1979)and Mary June (4-9-1970) Rogers; husband, Earl Duane Shotwell (8-28-2016); son, Douglas Nathan Wanamaker (5-17-1999); brothers, David Ebernickel (6-29-2004), Darryl Ebernickel (2-1-2013) and sister, Rose Marie Rogers (8-13-2009).
A memorial service will be held in Spring of 2022. Doris wished to be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery with her husband.
