Obituary of Charles Edward Hartman, Jr.

Mr. Charles Edward Hartman, Jr., 70, of Kalamazoo, MI., passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Scottville, Michigan, on October 7, 1951, the son of Betty and Charles Hartman, Sr. Charles Jr. received his formal education and graduated from Hasting High School, continued his studies, and attended Central Michigan University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in History and Biology. Charles also proudly serviced in the United States Armed Forces. One of Charles's favorite pastimes was watching hockey. For years he held a season ticket at K-Wing Stadium. Charles became part of the K-Wings family, where he devoted time to being an Off-Ice Official, Time Keeper, and Goal Judge. He belonged to the MHSAA Organization, through which he officiated all elementary and high school athletic sports. Charles was an umpire of baseball and softball and a referee for football and volleyball. He also officiated at the City of Portage and Kalamazoo Parks & Recreation. Charles is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane Hartman of Kalamazoo MI; his brother Mike (Linda) Hartman; his brothers-in-law: Paul (Linda) Combs, David Combs, and Bruce (Wendy) Combs; his uncle Carl Hartman; his two close and best friends, Ronnie and Billy-Bob, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his parents Betty and Charles Hartman, Sr., and his grandparents. A Time of Remembrance in honor of Charles will be held at a later date.
