Nneka Canda

Obituary of Nneka Josephine Magnolia Canda

Nneka Josephine Magnolia Canda departed unexpectedly on June 6th, 2021 in Ypsilanti MI in the comfort of her home. Nneka Canda was born March 25, 1981 in Muskegon MI and resided in Kalamazoo MI being the youngest of 8 siblings. Nneka moved out of Kalamazoo at 22 years old and resided in Pontiac MI after the passing of her mother Joanne Pratt. She worked as an CNA at Borgs health center for 8 years until one day she got sick. Thinking it was a common cold she went to the doctors and was prescribed simple antibiotics, but as she got worse she decided to get a second opinion and was soon diagnosed at 31 years old with congestive heart failure. The doctors soon found out her heart was too weak and had a defibrillator placed just in case her heart would give out. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to help Nneka's heart grow stronger, so she was recommended to the University of Michigan hospital in order to help with her heart complications. Nneka soon started going to the hospital for appointments to get treatment for her heart. During that process the doctors recommended her getting an L-VAD machine in order to keep her heart pumping and to wait for a heart transplant. The chance wasnt high that she would make it through the surgery but she prospered. She lived with a machine that pumped her heart but it prevented her from doing normal everyday things. To be a part of the heart transplant program Nneka decided to reside in Canton, which was closest to the hospital, and to continue the program. Nneka Canda spent 9 long years fighting to make herself healthy again. From three appointments a month to illnesses that subsided to her current condition she continued to stay strong, keep faith, and to fight. Sadly June 6th, 2021 she passed away due to complications of her health. Nneka Canda life will be remembered by her two kids, Donrell Canda and Shatavon McCoy, her one grandson Tristian Canda and her 8 siblings, TIna Pratt, Markus Canda, Shahidah Canda, Marsha Canda-Pratt, Katrina Canda, Gloria Sterling, Orlando Witherspoon, and her late sister Theresa Walker and also her father George Canda. She will be preceded in death by her loving mother Joanne Pratt, her step father Willie Smith, her sister Theresa Walker, and her grandmother Ollie Canda. Nneka Canda fun, ambitious, sweet, beautiful soul will be missed by her loved ones here on earth. A beautiful sister, daughter, mother, cousin, aunt, grandmother and friend; she will truly be missed.
