Obituary of Mamie Lee Raybon

Mamie Lee Meriweather-Raybon was called to be with the Lord, as she slipped into her robe of Righteousness; custom made by God Almighty on midmorning of April 15, 2021. Mom was born to Oscar Lee and Molly Meriweather in Hernando, Mississippi on February 20, 1933. She became the youngest of the eight children and the last of the family to transition. Mother Raybon made the decision to follow Christ as a young child at Knights Chapel CME Church in Hernando. While living in Memphis, Tennessee she was an active member and choir member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. When the Raybon family moved to Grand Rapids, MI she became a member of New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John V. Williams. Soon after, she joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Maurice Jones, where she sang in the senior choir and was a member of the Mother Board. At this time, she was a faithful member of Redeemed Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Pearson serving on the Mother Board until her health would no longer permit her. Mamie was employed by Drueke Game Company for several years. Years later, she was gainfully employed at General Motors on Burton SW until retirement in February 1995. Mrs. Mamie Lee Meriweather Raybon was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Lee and Molly Meriweather; her husband, Excel Raybon (union of 45+ years); seven siblings, Melvin Sr, Lorenzo Sr, Harry Sr, Byrdia, Winston Sr, Marjorie, and John; one brother-in-law, John Douglas and one great grandson, Marcus Excel King. She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter Mary (Andrew) Williams; seven grandchildren, Katrina, Adriel, Catrina (Pastor Frierson), LaQuinda, Marquita, Andrae, Keon; six great grandchildren, Antone, Amiri, Stacy Jr, Caitlin, Erin, Micah Lamar; Caregiver/Special Niece - Bonnie L.
