Obituary of Constance Gayles

There are two facts that claim our attention: The uncertainty of Life and the Uncertainty of death. Today we take the time out to reflect on the Life of our loved one, Mrs. Constance Gayles, (Connie Gayles to those who knew her well.) Constance transitioned after a lengthy affliction on March 18, 2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Constance (Connie) was born on July 7, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Fred and Clotiel Hunter. Shew was raised in Chicago where she attended William W. Carter Elementary and Chicago Vocational High School, graduating in 1962. Here in Chicago is where she met the love of her life John W. Gayles. Connie moved with her parents and three girls to South Haven, Michigan in 1976. Connie attended Emmanuel Community Church and Antioch MBC in South Haven, Michigan. She Married John W. Gayles on May 5, 1982 and began working as a secretary at South Haven Public Schools in 1983 and retired from there in 2004. Desiring a change of scenery, she and John moved to Atlanta, Georgia 2006. While in Atlanta she was under the care of Pastor DR. Wesley Greene SR. at Amazing Grace World Outreach Church. However, her desire for the snow in Michigan (imagine that) brought her back to Portage, Michigan in 2016. Connie enjoyed crossword puzzles, solitaire, and card games. She enjoyed eating out and trying new foods. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and Friend. She is Proceeded in death by her parents, Fred and Clotiel Hunter, two brothers, Fred and Michael Hunter and two daughters, Jolonda Phillips (1963) and Carla Pirtle (1993). She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, John Gayles, two daughters, Caren (Lawrence Throne) Hamilton of Huston, TX; Carmen (Anthony) Harp of Kalamazoo, MI three grandchildren; Timothy L Hamilton of Jacksonville, FL (USMC); Tae’lor M Hamilton of Fort Hood, TX (US Army) Channing A Harp of Kalamazoo MI; three great grandchildren Laylah, Tiana, and Timothy (Tre) III; Special Aunt; Della Davis of Huston TX, Special cousin Debbie Allison-Brown; Best Friend of 50 plus years Sherley A McCormick; as well as a host of brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Although Connie has departed from this earthly life, her life and Legacy remain cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
