Obituary of Earl Duane Shotwell

Earl “Duane” Shotwell passed away on August 28, 2016, following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 18, 1953, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he lived most of his life. Duane was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and a veteran of the United States Navy. He served his country on the US Navy Ship Mount Hood, anchored off the shore of Vietnam, as a gunner’s mate and earned the National Defense Service Metal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Thelma Shotwell, and by his brother Bill Shotwell. Duane was a very loving father, husband, and a friend to many. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Doris, his children Berangila & Juan, Lorelei & Geoff, Michelle, Tommy, step son Rick, step daughter Kim, brothers Steve & Han, Kenny & Naomi, Little Mike, Big Michael, sisters Teresa, Marie & Jr and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Word for Life Church of God (7022 E. Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan) on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following the service Military Funeral Honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery (15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, Michigan). A light luncheon will follow in the Community Room of Comstock Tower Apartments (5285 E. H Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan).
