Obituary of Wilmotine Evelyn Oliver

Obituary: Wilmotine Evelyn Oliver The second oldest child of nine, Wilmotine (Tina) Evelyn Oliver was born on August 31,1931 to Edward and Viney Oliver in Sylvania, Ga (Halcyondale), As a young child, Tina joined Jordan Baptist Church in Sylvania. She attended Screven County Training School. Upon graduation, she attended Savannah State College where she played basketball. In the name of progress, she moved to Jackson, Michigan the family. One of her first places of employment was the Corning Glass in Albion, MI. Later, she made a career change to Kelsey Hayes Manufacturing where she retired after working for over 30 years. Tina’s self proclaimed work ethics propelled her to be punctual for work, as a result, she was awarded a perfect attendance plaque. If there was anyone who enjoyed sports, it was Tina. She was an avid golfer, bowler, and soft ball player. As a golfer, she joined a golf league for enjoyment, she was such a great bowler that she went to the National Women’s Bowling Tournament for 25 consecutive years traveling from city to city. She received an award to that effect. Many trophies and patches were among her many accomplishments. She taught her 15 year old son to play golf, and even paid for the windows he broke while practicing in the back yard. Tina joined Second Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir, attended Sunday School/Prayer Meeting and was on the soft ball team. She excelled in the things she attempted even the computer. Later Tina moved to Kalamazoo and couldn’t wait to join Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed Fulfilment Hour, Bible Study and Prayer Meeting. She was always excited to fulfill her financial obligations (Tithes and Offerings), Again, she was punctual. Tina developed an unofficial Peanut Brittle ministry by making the candy and distributing to individuals. Tina used three different tablets to make sure she didn’t miss the streaming church service on Sunday mornings. Tina assumed the responsibility of caring for her three younger brothers whom she referred to as her sons. She would go to their games, dressed them for proms/graduations and anything else they would need. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, Elward Oliver, Raleigh Oliver, and Rodell Oliver. Tina is survived by her two Sons, Larry Oliver, Charlotte, NC, and Douglas Oliver, Kalamazoo, MI. Two Sisters Wilhelmena Byrd (George), Jacksonville, FL, and Janet Nichols, Kalamazoo, MI, three Brothers, Wendell Oliver (Hattie), Dea. Lynard Oliver (Lubretha), and Dea. James Oliver all of Jackson, MI. Two Granddaughters, Aaliyah Oliver, Lansing, MI and Larisa Oliver, Charlotte, NC, one Grandson, Kenny Wimberly, Lansing MI. Three Sister-in-Laws, Marie Oliver, Ella Jean Oliver, and Alberta Oliver all of Jackson, MI. Special Son and Daughter, Kevin and Lisa Wimberly of Lansing, MI. also many special Nieces, Nephews and Cousins in Georgia, Florida and Michigan. Special friends: Margie Thomas and Ethel Lou Moss, Jackson, MI, Helen Brooks and Ivy Gant, Felix and Josephine Hernandez, Terry and Angie Eldred, Richard and Linda Anthony and Domingo Guzman all of Kalamazoo, MI, Tina will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She was a strong, encouraging, confident and positive person.
