Obituary of Nathaniel Owens, Sr.

Nathaniel Owens, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. He was born in Dundee, MS on February 6, 1947 to Clemmye Owens and Roberta Thomas. He was the second of 14 siblings and was baptized at an early age. Nate was employed at First Presbyterian Church for 13 years until the time of his passing. He enjoyed fishing, being on the lake, playing poker, the slots at the casino, and watching movies. His favorite travel destination was Mackinaw Island. He liked to dress nice and had an extensive vocabulary. He was a loving and kind gentle giant. He was preceded in death by his father Clemmye Owens, Sr., mother Roberta Ferguson, son Nathaniel Owens, Jr., step-father Edgar Ferguson, Jr., brothers Clemmye Owens, Jr., Johnny Owens, Charles Ferguson, sister Brenda Ferguson and brother-in-law Ronald Towers. Nate leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife Carol Jean Owens, his step mother, Alma Owens of Toledo, Ohio and one son; Owen Dotson of Toledo, Ohio. His step-children; Marvin (Pam) Williams, Marie (Johnny) Williams of Kalamazoo, MI, Floyd (Margi) Williams of Mattawan, MI, Eddie (Adrienne) Williams, Theresa (Greg) Offord, Julie Williams and Bridggit (Prescott) Lewis all of Kalamazoo, MI, Benjamin T. (Kecia) Lee, Vina M. Lee, Aaron C. Lee, Joey F. (Shardae) Chambers and Felicia Williams. His siblings; Edgar (Molly) Ferguson III, Debra Ferguson and Virgie Ferguson of Kalamazoo, MI, Kenneth Mitchell, Jacquelyn Smith, Brenda Watt, Craig (Molly) Owens and Maria (Prentice) Griswold, all of Toledo, Ohio. Dwight Owens, of Tucker, Arkansas. Mother-in-law, Leola Gaddie and one brother-in-law, Alfred Barnes both of Kalamazoo, MI, sister-in-law Shirley Owens of Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to a special family at First Presbyterian Church, Pat Stromsta and staff.
