Obituary of Robert Earl Moore

The mortal life of our beloved Robert Earl Moore began on July 11, 1955, in Greenville, Mississippi, where he was born to Van Roe Solomon and Elizabeth Moore. As a child, Robert became a follower of Christ at Saint James Church of God in Christ under the guidance of Pastor Smith. In 1973, Robert graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He later attended Grand Rapids Junior College before joining the United States Army in 1976. During his military career, Robert honorably served as an artillery trainer, a first-class hand grenade specialist, and a marksman. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, Robert returned to Michigan to continue his studies at Grand Rapids Junior College. He later joined Galilee Baptist Church, under Pastor J. Louis Felton, where he served as hospitality president for two years; a position he proudly assumed in service to both the church and the Lord. Robert spent the rest of his years working and living a fulfilling life in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. He married Darlene who preceded him in death. He fathered one daughter, Azzetta Renee Matthews, whom he loved dearly. Later in life, he married Marilyn Moore with whom he happily shared his last years. As is the case with all who walk this earthly plane, Robert grappled with the ups and downs of life. With the love and support of his family and friends, he successfully rose above many of the obstacles that would come his way, serving as an example of resiliency to all who knew and loved him. Uncle Mike, as he was adoringly called by his nieces and nephews, will be fondly remembered for his kind soul, his undeniable role as a superfan of the Detroit Lions and the Michigan Wolverines, his desire to be the most sharply-dressed man around, and his love of spending time with his grandkids. Robert leaves to mourn his loving wife, Marilyn; beloved daughter, Azzetta Renee; much-loved siblings, Clara, Dorothy, Mary, Jacqueline, Jessie, and Patrick; cherished grandchildren, Robert, Anari, Angela, Noah, Kai'Zhon, Nai'Zari, and his treasured granddaughter, Markiesha, whose selfless sacrifice added years to Robert's life; three great-grandchildren, Seveah, Jo'Baire, and Josiah; godbrother, Robert; dear cousin, Willie Mae; three brothers-in-law, Demetrius, Keith, and Carl; two stepchildren, Kamesha and Cornel; and a host of niece, nephews, and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Moore Thomas; his father, Van Roe Solomon; his stepfather, Jessie Miller; his brother, Charles; and his grandparents, James C. Moore and Cora Lee Foster.
