Obituary of Vernita Grace Dixon

Vernita Grace Dixon was called home, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the age of 57 after a 21-year battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was born on December 3, 1962 to Earlene and Leroy Simpson, Sr. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Grace, as she was affectionally called, was a child of God and a believer in Christ. She was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Grace married Kenneth James Dixon, Sr. on May 7, 1988. To this union, she was blessed to have four children. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Grace graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. She went on to work at the Discovery Center Daycare before beginning a 34-year career in the Pharmaceutical Industry when she became employed at the Upjohn Company in 1986. She remained employed with the company throughout several acquisitions including Pfizer and later Zoetis where she worked in the Quality Department. Grace was a beautiful and kindhearted soul. She was known as one of the nicest and sweetest people you could ever meet. She always saw the good in everyone. She had a knack for decorating and you could catch her beautifying her yard on any given sunny day. She loved spending time with her family, laughing, and travelling. Grace was preceded in death by her grandmother Gracie Mae Edwards, grandfather Louis Jeff Rush, mother and father, Earlene and Leroy Simpson Sr., mother-in-law Patricia Joyce Dixon, brothers Hardy and Herman Simpson, aunt Anna White, niece LaDonna J. Simpson, and her beloved son Michael Jay Dixon, Sr. Grace is cherished in memory by her husband Kenneth James Dixon Sr., daughter Charisa Star Simpson of Kalamazoo, MI, son Kenneth James Dixon Jr. of Atlanta, GA, son De’Juan Manley (Jasmine) of Chicago, IL, grandchildren Terrill A. Henley Jr., Deshaya Green, Anaiah Manley, Madison Manley, Kirsten Manley, Mariya A. Dixon, Tamia A. Dixon, Michael J. Dixon Jr., Caleb M. Sherrod, and great-grandson Terrill A. Henley III; five brothers, Leroy Simpson Jr. (Patricia), Neal Simpson (Dorothy) of Kalamazoo, MI, Willie Simpson (Georgetta) and Sherman Simpson of Harvey, IL, and Dana Simpson of South Carolina; three sisters, Athalia Simpson, LaBrenda Jackson and Denise Snell all of Kalamazoo, MI, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
