Obituary of Laurie Ann Chapman
Laurie Ann Chapman, age 58, passed away November 7, 2020
Laurie was born on January 4th, 1962 in Kalamazoo, MI and lived the majority of her life in Vicksburg, MI.
Laurie found a passion working with disabled children while attending Vicksburg High School. She did this until she went to Michigan State. When Laurie became ill with Hodgekin's, she turned that passion towards 3D art, writing poetry and learning the guitar as well as the TV show, Xena.
She laughed hardest when visiting with her sister, Cheryl or any family member and also when she played Borderlands.
She loved that game. She loved her family. In September of 2000, Laurie moved back to Kalamazoo to live with her life partner, Janet, until she passed away at their home after battling congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Even while so ill, Laurie always had a kind word and a warming smile for everyone around her.
Laurie was known for her quick wit, infectious smile and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Laurie was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores, and her father, John, as well as her niece Brittany and her four nephews, Allen, David, Adam, and Eric.
She is survived by her life partner, Janet, as well as her sister, Cheryl, and her three brothers, Bruce, Brian and Mike.
Also her nieces Melissa, Kaylee (Grey) and Heather and her nephew, Josh.
Laurie also had two children by unofficial adoption with Janet named Jon and Sarah and their grandchildren, Brittany (with husband Peter), Jon Patrick, Sean, Aiden and Zane.
In compliance with Laurie's wishes, there will not be a service.
But for those who wish to show compassion, her favorite charity was St. Jude's for Children.
Laurie wrote the following poem to be left as a comfort to those she left behind. She is so missed.
There is a season
What if all things unseen are the truth?
The infinite heavens that surf the bright swells
Of mortal existence that lives beyond proof
The blueprints of stars still mapped in our cells
What if divinity drapes from our hearts?
Erasing horizons where time meets the sky
And nothing conceived is the sum of its parts
Our carbon-based forms but the blink of an eye
As strings of the universe vibrate and sway
The harp of creation, the bard's ancient tale
The voice of the wanderer lights up the way
On secret blue seas we've yet to set sail
For whispers can steal the cosmic winds
As they sweep the moondust from our shores
There is no death, there are no sins
Just limitless journeys through countless new doors
A spark that's reborn in a deep, salty tear
To drift far above the matrix dome
Unbreakable, there will be no more fear
I'll have no more fear for I will be home
