Obituary of Ricardo Lynn Evans

Ricardo Lynn Evans was born July 22, 1953, in Kalamazoo MI to Ramona Jean Underwood and Charles Evans. He passed away on October 5, 2020, in Washington DC. He attended Kalamazoo Public Schools and Lake Michigan College in Stevensville, ML He; worked at Walgreens Laboratories for 15 years, and later was a bus driver for Kalamazoo County Head Start Program. Several years later he moved to Washington DC, where he joined The Holy Christian House of Praise under the leadership of Apostle Stephen E. Young Sr. Ricardo was self-employed as a distributor of magazines for The MAXX Corporation. Ricardo's passion and the height of his career was his love for basketball. Ricky, as he was affectionately known in basketball, played three years of varsity basketball for Kalamazoo Central High School. During his senior season, Ricky was voted 1st Team All-City, 1st Team All G-K (Greater Kalamazoo), and 3rd Team All-State. Ricky led the Maroon Giants to a 21-3 record during his final season. Ricardo married his true love, Gwendolyn Yvonne Fannin, on August 9, 1986. Married for 34 years, although they lived apart there was no love loss. Ricardo moved to Washington DC several years ago but still maintained a close, loving relationship with his wife Gwen. Ricardo was preceded in death by his mother Ramona Jean Underwood, his maternal grandmother, and brother, Malcolm L. Ware. Ricardo is survived by his loving wife, Gwendolyn Y. Evans; son, Jerry (Angela) Harvey, 3 grandchildren; David, Jayshawn, Chrishawn; 3 great-grandchildren; Nevah Sky, Kyrie, and Jayla. Sister, Pamela Ampey-Lyles, niece, Kimberly Davis, and an Uncle, Ralph Underwood. In-Laws Herberta (Sylvester) Carver, Herbert (Tessie) Fannin, Jocelyn Harp, and Kevin Fannin. Special nieces Shannen Ware and Annalyn Fannin, special nephews Jason Carver and Benjamin Fannin. A special cousin, Rhonda Hurd and special friends, Paula Johnson, Walter Bernard, special basketball fan, Larry Ollie, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special shout out to Travis Crudup, his best friend in DC, whom he talked with on a regular basis. Your friendship really meant a lot to him. Ricardo will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
