Obituary of William Ray Orman
William Orman passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice on September 15, 2020 following a very brief illness.
Bill was born to Wayne and Pearl Orman on the family farm in Owen County, IN on January 15, 1929. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Myers on August 30, 1952 while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Bill spent the majority of his career at First Federal Savings & Loan where he was a beloved boss and keen problem solver as the computer age entered the banking world. After retiring in 1987, Bill and Jo spent nearly 30 fun and engaging years traveling in their motorhome making friends all over the U.S. They were a dynamic duo at the bridge table sitting opposite one another for nearly 70 years. Bill was a clever man who could fix just about anything with a pair of vice grips, a rubber band and a piece of string.
He was a favorite of the wonderful caregivers at Directors Hall where he spent his last year being pampered and loved. He and daughter Joan enjoyed their long-time habit of sharing a chat over a vodka & tonic up until his final days. Bill was a smart, sweet man with beautiful blue eyes.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Paul, in 2007 and his wife, Mary Jo, in April of 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Joan, and her husband Eric Bekker, as well as his granddaughter, Bailee Orman. He is also survived by his brother, Don (Lou Ann) Orman, nephew Kevin and niece Kathy.
Per his wishes, there were no services. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo MI 49007. Much gratitude to the incredibly caring staff at this organization - especially Natalie Delorey.
