Obituary of Emma Queen Anderson
Mrs. Emma Queen (Lindsey) Anderson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, the second daughter of Mrs. Helen Blaylock Lindsey (Robert) both pre-deceased. A beautiful curly haired darling, Emma was fearless on the playground, a tiny defender of fairness, goodness and a peacemaker, kind and caring with a warrior’s heart! She attended elementary school at Mary E. Phillips, Aycock Junior High School and J.W. Ligon High School in Raleigh.
Emma’s first job was secretary at the Africana Art Gallery, 512 W. Hargett St. in Raleigh. Later employed at Dorothea Dix Hospital, it was in the field of Medical and Health Care that she really found a love and passion caring for the elderly. She touched the lives of countless patients and their families in the twenty-six years she worked in nursing care in Kalamazoo until her retirement due to her health needs.
Emma met the love of her life in Raleigh, an Army veteran who loves and served his country well, Eddie R. Anderson. They were married on October 12, 1973, moved to and lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for the duration of forty-six years of marriage. The fruit and joy of their union, was their son whom she totally loved and was very proud of, Dexter L. Anderson (Shalon and Amari’) also of Kalamazoo and in his Father’s footsteps, served in the U.S. Army.
The anchor and bulwark of Mrs. Emma Anderson’s life was that she was centered and grounded in her Faith and Love of God. What fueled her love of family, church and community service was her belief and desire to be and give her best and for others to know the love and joy of Christ. She was a long time, faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church where Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas Scott is Senior Pastor. For the beauty and power of her Spirit and the love she so unselfishly gave to family, friends and strangers, she will always be missed and leaves behind to cherish her memory and the joys of her life, her four siblings: Rev. Dr. Cynthia C. Cole (best friend Paul Schuyler) Rochester, NY, Mrs. Andrea V. Weldon (Patrick), John W. Brown (Faye) and Ronald E. Brown (Judy) all of Raleigh; Aunts and Uncle, Mary E. Thomas (Ira Lee d.), Joseph Blaylock (Aileen), Annie M. Rowland (Herbert), Martha P. Freeman (William d.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend Katie and Cooper, her beloved grand-dog.
