Alice Collier

Obituary of Alice Lue Collier

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:  Ecclesiastes 3:1

Alice Lue Hudson Collier was born December 26, 1946 to the late Katie Lee Brewer and Nathaniel Hudson Sr. in Leflore County, Itta Bena, Mississippi.  She attended McClain Grammar School and went on to attend Tchula Attendance Center High School.  Alice confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church.  In 1961, she united with Holley Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev C. D. Brown.  After coming to Chicago, she joined Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Steve Chew.  There she sang in the young adult choir and her favorite song was Grace and Mercy.  She became a faithful member of New Zion Grove Baptist Church where she served in many different capacities under Pastor Duncan’s leadership.  Alice’s final membership was at Grace Nation Church, under the leadership of Rev Anthony Stepney where she became affectionately known as Mother Collier.

Once in Chicago, Alice met and married Ira M. Collier.  She worked diligently for many years on various jobs until she became a home child care provider.  In August of 2015, Alice moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan with the support of her children.  During that time, it was discovered that she was in early stages of Dementia.  By the end of 2017, the disease had progressed rapidly.  After much prayer and research, Alice was moved to Sue’s Loving Care Home.  The qualified staff there took very good care of her until God saw fit to take her home.

Alice had a strong, dominate personality and always spoke what was on her mind.  People were drawn to her sense of humor and giving spirit.  She will live on because her children and grandchildren exemplify portions of her personality traits.  Alice’s wall of family portraits which she proudly displayed, were her joys in her final years.  Alice departed this life on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2:09 p.m.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Alice leaves to cherish her memories four children:  Joe N. Jackson of Park Forest, IL, Roy A. Hudson (Deanna) of Kalamazoo, MI, Al J. Collier (Tilila) of Matteson, IL, and Kimberly Collier Newell of Kalamazoo, MI; 9 grandchildren:  El G. Collier (Codia), Daryl A. Holman, Kyra A. Hudson, Al C. Collier, Justin N. Collier, Micah J. Collier, Nyla S. Collier, Autumn S. Collier, and Kennedy A. Hudson; 3 great grandchildren:  Naomi E. Collier, Nasir E. Collier, and Nyla E. Collier; 2 brothers:  Joe Louis and Nathaniel Jr.; 4 sisters in law:  Evelyn, Rose, Diane, Lavern; 2 brothers in law:  Edward and Robert; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sleep dear one and take your rest, we love you.  God loves you best.
