Obituary of Mattie Lou Liggins

Mattie L. Liggins, age 82, passed away on November 14, 2021. She was born on January 5, 1939, in Batesville, MS, to Douglas and Freddie Ruth (Barber) Johnson. On April 16, 1960, she married Robert L. Liggins, who preceded her in death in 2007. In 1967, she dedicated her life to do God's will. She found happiness in sharing kingdom truths with others. She instilled a love for our grand Creator in her children and grandchildren. Mattie was a member of the South Haven (MI) congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 45 years. Most recently, she was a member of the East Kalamazoo (MI) congregation. She looked forward to the time where, "God...will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." (Rev. 21:3,4) She is survived by her children, Marvin (Jean) Liggins and Rochelle Johnson, her grandchildren, for whom she had a special fondness for, Douglas C. Satkey and Whitney (Luke) Bartz. Her sisters, Susie Whitmore, Lynder McNeal, Dorothy Johnson, Bevelyn Johnson and Janet (Gibson) Petties. Her brothers, Carl (Helen) Johnson and James Johnson. Sister-in-law Tina (Eddie Steve) Dixon and brother-in-law, Eddie Clardy and a host of nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Robin Liggins, her sister, Barbara Whitmore and by her parents. Due to the pandemic, a memorial service will be held via video conferencing (Zoom) on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 2 PM, with Mr. Andrew Odebrecht officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Centrica Care Navigators (Rose Arbor Hospice), Bronson Methodist Hospital, West Michigan Cancer Center, Dr. Shannon McKeeby and Dr. Muhammad Hameed for providing great care to our mother/grandmother.
